Eugene responds to reports that the town engineer flagged hundreds of thousands of dollars in payments to the contractor that were not supported by documents. He faults the supervisor for turning attention to the employee who raised the issue instead of ordering an independent audit or internal review, or answering residents’ questions.
He sets a deadline of August 1, 2026 for the Town to refer the contract to the State Comptroller for an independent audit, and says that if it does not, he will file a formal complaint with the Comptroller himself and ask that the review extend to the Town’s other procurements.
