What Eugene says in this clip
Standing outside the burned house at 1 W Burda Pl. in New City, Eugene relays what neighbors told him: the house had recently been sold, and they reported seeing as many as 12 people living there, with multiple cars and heavy trash, which he describes as signs of an illegal rental. He says he does not know whether the occupants were related, but that Town law does not permit a single-family house to be used as a dormitory.
He says the problem is not isolated, pointing to New City, Nanuet, West Nyack, Upper Nyack, Bardonia, and Congers, and that residents tell him their complaints to Town Hall go unanswered or draw only light penalties. He argues that repeated announcements of more code enforcement officers have not reversed the trend, and that the Town’s rental registry, which reaches LLC owners like the one that owned this house, has holes that need to be closed.
His approach: know who stands behind every rental LLC, respond to every call, take cases through the full court process instead of settling, recover the rental profits, and pursue criminal responsibility where the circumstances warrant it.
