What Eugene says in this clip
At the West Nyack Heritage Foundation candidates night, Eugene recounts the history of Clarkstown’s term limits: a 2014 law the current supervisor introduced and championed, including language requiring a supermajority to undo it, followed years later by the supervisor’s own lawsuit against the Town, which argued in part that the same supermajority language made the law invalid.
He urges the council members who say they support term limits to use their authority to introduce a new local law, done the right way, and put it to the voters in a referendum. He argues that eight years is enough time for any supervisor to deliver change, and that term limits keep officials from becoming career politicians beholden to special interests.
